Hiroshima Peace Gingko Tree Dedication

On June 1, 2023, the Roseburg Sisters Cities organization and Umpqua Community College gathered to dedicate the Hiroshima Peace Gingko Tree. A special plaque was displayed to be installed. Roseburg Sister Cities members, Kuki City, Japan Delegates, Umpqua Community College staff and several special guests were present to witness the dedication. The gingko tree seed survived the Hiroshima atomic bombing in 1945 and was gifted to promote peace by Hideko Tamura Snider of One Sunny Day Initiatives.

Poem was read both in English and Japanese of Pope John Paul II’s appeal for peace
