DEDICATION

Although the student exchanges between the two cities began in 1987, the formal sister city agreement between Shobu, Japan and Roseburg, Oregon was signed in 1993 by the Mayors of both cities.  Both the adult and student exchanges have been occurring ever since.  When Shobu became part of the larger Kuki City, a new sister city proclamation was signed by both mayors in 2015 as a re-dedication of the bond between the two cities. The sister city relationship remains as strong as ever.

2015 Kuki City Mayor Visit

On August 2nd, a small delegation from Kuki City, that included the Mayor, City Council President, President of the Roseburg Kuki Association, and two Kuki City employees, were met in Portland and driven down to Roseburg.  They were here to sign a new Sister City Proclamation between Kuki and Roseburg.  (The previous agreement was with Shobu which was now incorporated into Kuki City.) The signing was a well-attended public event held at Umpqua Community College in the Lang Event Center.  During their short stay in Roseburg, they visited the Police and Fire Station, City Hall, Douglas County Museum, had tours of Swanson Mill, Umpqua Dairy, Linus Oakes, and Mercy Medical Center before returning to Portland on August 5th to fly back to Japan.
